What rhino.fi is
rhino.fi is a self-custodial DeFi platform born as DeversiFi (2019), a decentralised exchange on StarkEx technology that emerged from the Bitfinex/Ethfinex orbit. In July 2022 the project renamed itself rhino.fi and progressively abandoned the pure DEX model to become a multi-chain gateway: bridging between dozens of blockchains, swaps and, more recently, infrastructure for routing and settling stablecoins. The user does not open an account: they connect their own wallet and keep custody of their funds. Nectar (NEC), the token of the DeversiFi era, is no longer the project's token: it was replaced by DVF. The company was co-founded by Will Harborne, Daniel Yanev and Ross Middleton, the project's long-standing CFO; the CEO today is Yanev, at the helm for around a year and a half, while Harborne stepped down in the transition between 2024 and 2025 and remains a co-founder. Regulation and licences
- MiCA-CASP: not found. rhino.fi operates as a self-custodial service: the user does not entrust funds to the platform and fully decentralised DeFi protocols are largely outside the MiCA perimeter. This also means that anyone using it from the EU does NOT enjoy the protections MiCA provides for clients of authorised CASPs. The regulatory position of the corporate entity behind the platform, historically based in London, does not emerge from public sources.
- It is not an entity supervised by a financial authority for the services it offers. (Verified: September 2026)
Security
The self-custodial model eliminates the custody risk typical of centralised exchanges: funds stay in the user's wallet until execution. The risks typical of DeFi remain (smart contracts, bridges). No significant hacks with loss of user funds are documented in the history of DeversiFi/rhino.fi.
Alternatives
- Dolomite — a non-custodial DeFi trading and lending protocol
- ShapeShift — a multi-chain self-custodial platform
- Nash — a non-custodial exchange of European origin
FAQ
Are rhino.fi and DeversiFi the same thing? Yes: DeversiFi renamed itself rhino.fi in July 2022. The old site and the StarkEx DEX model have been superseded by the transformation into a bridge/cross-chain infrastructure platform. (Verified: September 2026)
Does rhino.fi hold my funds? No: it is a self-custodial service. You operate by connecting your own wallet and the funds remain under the user's control; precisely for this reason the MiCA protections provided for clients of authorised exchanges do not apply. (Verified: September 2026)
