From MIT to MicroStrategy CEO—why he moved corporate cash into Bitcoin and shifted Wall Street.
Analysis firm Messari has released the 'State of Helium Q4 2024' report, which analyses Helium Network's key metrics, growth and operational changes in the final quarter of 2024.
The document contains data on network adaptation and development, with a focus on the DePIN ecosystem and the expansion of mobile and IoT infrastructure.
Helium Network Shows Excellent Results
In Q4, approximately 570TB of data transited through the network, a 5.5-fold increase from the previous quarter.
At the end of Q4, the number of Helium Mobile subscribers with an unlimited call and message plan exceeded 120,000, marking a 7% increase. The total number of subscribers now exceeds 150,000.

The network continues to grow:
Nova Labs, a Helium Network partner, tested hotspots in collaboration with Telefonica in Mexico, marking an important step in the integration between decentralised networks and traditional telecom operators.
Expansion in the US and New Updates
In October, Helium significantly expanded its coverage in the US, with over 100,000 Ameriband hotspots connected to the network.
Helium implemented the HIP 138 update, simplifying the token structure. Now, 70 per cent of HNT's output goes to the MOBILE network and 30 per cent to the IoT network, optimising the reward system for users.
In November, Harvard Business School included Helium in its strategy programme as a case study. In addition, the network was included in the Coinbase COIN50, the index that tracks the top 50 digital assets.
This now allows institutional investors and Coinbase Advanced users to trade the COIN50 via futures on Coinbase's international platform.
Why Helium Is Considered a Leader in DePIN
Helium is not the only network working on global connectivity, but has become a reference point for other projects in the industry.
The network is now a regular presence at major crypto events, including Token 2049, Breakpoint and DePIN Events in Singapore.
One of the main reasons the project stands out is its role as a platform for other DePIN initiatives. For example, DIMO, Hivemapper and WeatherXM use the Helium IoT network for their services, making it a key infrastructure.
Unlike other projects, Helium responds to the real needs of users, offering a flexible traffic offloading model, ideal for high-load sites where traditional operators cannot meet demand.
Instead of competing with large providers, Helium collaborates with them, maintaining simple and effective tokenomics: each time the network is used, Data Credits are burned, reducing HNT supply and creating additional demand.
To maintain its leadership, Helium will need to continue to expand the network, optimise resources and ensure compatibility between different sectors.
