From MIT to MicroStrategy CEO—why he moved corporate cash into Bitcoin and shifted Wall Street.
In spring 2025, cryptocurrency exchange Gemini officially announced a strategic expansion of its presence in the European market. Malta has been chosen as the main operational centre for the region. Thanks to the new European legislation under the MiCA, a licence obtained in one country allows one to legally offer services throughout the European Economic Area. This step has opened Gemini's access to users in France, Germany, Spain, Italy and other countries.
Reasons for choosing Malta
Malta has long established itself as a favourable jurisdiction for crypto companies. A developed regulatory framework and support from government agencies enabled Gemini to quickly obtain the necessary permits and begin active expansion into the EU.
Improvements for Users in Europe
The company made extensive adaptations of its interface and functionality to the needs of European customers. New payment methods have been added, including direct bank transfers in euro and sterling. This has simplified the process of depositing and withdrawing funds, making the platform more accessible and understandable for users in EU countries.
In addition, Gemini has improved the functionality of its ActiveTrader platform, making it more flexible and convenient for experienced traders. Users now have access to more than 80 trading pairs with popular cryptocurrencies, as well as updated technical analysis tools and interface customisation.
One of Gemini's Priorities is to Increase the Level of Crypto Literacy among its Clients
The company is actively developing an educational platform where users can learn the basics of cryptocurrencies, blockchain, security and trading. Regular analytical reviews help investors to better understand the market situation and make informed decisions.
Product localisation and work with the European public
Gemini strives to adapt its product as much as possible to the specificities of European users. The company researches the needs of local markets, launches initiatives to translate the interface into the main EU languages and opens regional offices. One of the first was the Malta office, where they started to recruit local specialists.
Gemini intends to take a leading position in the region, ensuring maximum transparency, regulatory compliance and a high level of security. The company focuses on long-term development and on building trust with European users.
