What Decoin is (was)

Decoin was a cryptocurrency exchange launched in 2017 with a "from the community for the community" model: at the heart of the project was DTEP, a proprietary token on a Proof-of-Stake blockchain that promised to redistribute part of the platform's revenue to holders. The company was registered in the Seychelles (previously in Tallinn, Estonia; the declared headquarters was in Victoria), with an Israeli-led team: leadership listed Shay Perry as CEO and Nadav Moshe as founder and CTO. The exchange platform no longer exists: industry trackers classify it among the closed exchanges ("exchange graveyard") and the domain decoin.io today no longer serves an exchange but a page of generic content on cryptocurrency education, with no trading service. Some user reports complain of funds left on the platform at the time of closure, with no documented public outcome. (Verified: September 2026)

Regulation and licences

  • MiCA-CASP: NO — a moot question: the exchange is not operational and cannot serve any client, EU included. (Verified: September 2026)
  • When it operated, there were no licences with leading authorities: registration in the Seychelles is not equivalent to supervision of the services offered.
  • There is no public official announcement of the date on which operations ceased, nor of any procedure to protect users.

Security

There are no significant public hacks in the platform's history; the reported problem is a different one: the closure was not accompanied by clear communications, and user reviews speak of funds not recovered. The DTEP token is still traded marginally on third-party platforms, but without the exchange that justified its revenue-sharing model. (Verified: September 2026)

Alternatives

  • Kraken — a global exchange that is operational and authorised in the EU
  • Bitstamp — a long-standing European exchange
  • Bybit — a platform with a regulated European entity

FAQ

Does Decoin still exist? No. The exchange is classified as closed by industry trackers and the site decoin.io no longer offers any trading service: the domain today hosts only generic editorial content. (Verified: September 2026)

What happened to the DTEP token? It is still marginally listed on third-party platforms, but the profit redistribution mechanism tied to the exchange ended with the platform's closure. (Verified: September 2026)
