TON reports the growth of wallets and earnings of mini-app developers.
In 2024, 36.2 million cryptocurrency wallets were created on The Open Network (TON), a number 55 times higher than the previous annual indicator. The total number of Toncoin holders exceeded 100 million, according to the ecosystem developers' report.
According to the statistics, monthly activity recorded up to 40 million active user wallets and smart contracts.
As of June 2024, TON has surpassed Base, BNB Chain and other blockchains in the number of active addresses, surpassing Ethereum almost daily in daily activity (averaging 1.8 million wallets).
Developers attributed the growth of the user base to three main factors: the launch of USDt on TON, the expansion of TON's DeFi ecosystem, and the growing popularity of social games as a user acquisition model.
Eight months after the launch, net USDt-TON transaction volume exceeded $1.2 billion, with 3.5 million wallets conducting 26 million transactions worth $39.6 billion.
Total Value Locked (TVL) increased from $13.5 million to $776 million at its peak, driven by a significant influx of funds from other networks, according to the report. Transfer volumes have ranged between $5 billion and $10 billion.
The Open League 2024 rewards programme has had eight seasons, distributing over $26 million to more than 240 projects.
Increase of Web3 Games and Big Investments in the Ecosystem TON in 2024
Web3 games have become one of the most popular categories of mini-apps on Telegram. Notcoin's airdrop, worth more than $2.2 billion, was among the five largest last year.
Subsequent token distributions by DOGS, Catizen, Hamster Kombat, Major and other projects have collectively attracted hundreds of millions of players, even considering wallets on centralised exchanges.
More than 1.19 million users have purchased the Telegram Stars game currency for a total of $63 million. More than 1,700 mini-app developers and content creators have withdrawn $55 million via the platform.
The largest investors in the TON ecosystem in 2024 were:
Among future tasks, ecosystem developers mentioned deep integration on Telegram via the TON Connect gateway, the launch of the Bitcoin TON Teleport bridge, the release of tokenized stickers and gifts, as well as expanding presence in the US market.
Previously, Anatoly Makosov, technical director of TON Core, spoke on the 'You Should Have Buy It' podcast about the network's development and plans for 2025.

As a reminder, on 21 January, Telegram and the TON Foundation announced an exclusive agreement that requires embedded Web3 applications to use The Open Network exclusively.
