Moonshot AI, the Chinese company behind the Kimi models, published the weights of Kimi K3.1 Pro on Hugging Face on November 4, 2026. The model had previously been available only through Moonshot's API. Anyone with the right infrastructure can now download it and run it on their own servers, entirely outside Moonshot's systems. The catch: model-as-a-service providers whose aggregate revenues exceed $20 million over any consecutive twelve-month period must sign a separate commercial agreement with Moonshot before deploying it.

Our team reviewed the model card and the full licence text in the official Hugging Face repository, accessed on November 5. The post announcing the weight release, dated November 4, and Kimi's announcement on X could not be opened with our tools: the date is based on our editorial records. We did not run the model ourselves, and the benchmark comparisons cited below are stated by Moonshot, not independently verified.
